* STENAPA strengthened its long-standing ties with the dive centres today by closing a tank fill agreement. The dive centres provide our #Marine Team with free tank fills and STENAPA takes care of the dive sites in return and gives visibility to the dive centres on the website. We are looking forward to continue working with Golden Rock and Scubaqua.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            ♦

* 5 STENAPA teams are surveying the island this week for the 1st bird count this year. By estimating the number of birds, STENAPA can get an idea about how nature is doing on the island and – more specific – the bird populations. On the photo’s you see the Botanical Garden Road team, consisting of Livius Bozga, Claire Wagret and Ervin Arnaud. The survey is made possible with financial support of DCNA and Netbiome.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    ♦

* STENAPA highlights sharks on Endangered Species Day as the team tagged two Caribbean Reef sharks. Although this species is near threatened globally, preventing such sharks from becoming endangered is extremely important.
                                                                                                                                                                        ♦
Tagged sharks are fitted with an acoustic transmitter that sends a unique sound for each shark to receivers placed around the island. Such data was collected today and will be used to study the shark’s behaviour and habitat. The information will show us how best to protect these creatures.                                                                                                                                                                                              ♦
