STENAPA and CNSI rallied this week to conduct the bi-annual Statia Bird Monitoring Survey. Staff and interns alike formed teams to hike around the Quill, the Quill trail, Gilboa Ridge 1 and to walk the road to the Botanical Garden and in town. Three surveys were done on November 26th, 27th and December 4th. The teams were able to identify 19 bird species. 22% of the total abundance of identified bird calls and/or sightings were Banana Quit. The Pearly-eyed Thrasher and the Lesser Antillean Bullfinch were ~13-15%. The American Kestrel, Bridled Quail-dove, Cattle Egret, House Sparrow and Scaly Naped Pigeon were at 0.3% of the abundance. Further data generated from this survey will be generated later this week. We thank DCNA and Netbiome for the financial support.
