Sint Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) is seeking a marine park intern. The new colleague is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of marine park, under direct supervision of the marine park manager and rangers. Many of the tasks are on the boat or underwater, so it is important that our new intern does not get seasick or tired after many dives on a daily basis.

Our new colleague has the following tasks:

  • Researching and monitor (turtle populations, fish, long-spined sea urchin, and coral diseases)
  • Culling the invasive lionfish population
  • Maintaining the coral nurseries
  • Cleaning mooring lines.
  • Other tasks within STENAPA

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine biology
  • Manual driver’s license
  • In possession of Advanced Open Water (PADI) dive certificate or higher
  • Flexible in working hours, can be in weekends and shifts during the night
  • Being able to switch between tasks quickly
  • Interested in nature conservation and awareness
  • Good communicator, service oriented, enthusiastic, wants to get things done
  • Enthusiastic to assist in terrestrial department when help is required
  • Well-rounded grasp of both marine and terrestrial ecosystems
  • Participated in various projects that study and/or conserve nature
  • Experience in turtle and Caribbean fish identification
  • Experience in the laboratory and fieldwork
  • Experience in handling corals inside and outside of nurseries
  • Experience in being a boat captain, with supervision on divers
  • Experience in research diving
  • Experience in statistics (SPSS, R, similar statistical programs)
  • Experience in marine invertebrate taxonomy
  • Proficient in, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CPCe
